If you buy a 10-ounce Dyneema tent, the initial carbon footprint might be similar to a 4-pound traditional nylon tent.
But here is where the math checks out for the heavier gear: lifespan.
If your ultra-light tent suffers a catastrophic tear from a stray pine branch on day 14 of use (which I've seen happen in the Oregon backcountry more times than I can count), and it cannot be easily repaired, that entire manufacturing footprint is essentially wasted.
